A new generation comes aboard

SEK 36 billion. This is the amount that Carnegie Fonder currently manages in fixed income funds, and, as this capital has grown, so we have expanded our fixed income management team with Daniel Gustafsson and Gustav Ekhagen.

Daniel Gustafsson has worked at Carnegie Fonder since 2016, most recently as a portfolio analyst and before that as a customer specialist while completing his studies at Stockholm University. Now it’s time for Daniel to take on a portfolio management role for Carnegie High Yield Select.

“Carnegie Fonder has a very transparent and open corporate culture, and this has meant great opportunities to get close to the core business, to advance and to rapidly take on a lot of responsibility. As a portfolio analyst, I assisted the fixed income managers with company analysis and market reports, and even joined in on many of the company visits, in order to optimise the investment decisions of the fund managers. I now look forward to continuing to meet with company management teams and shareholders, and also to being the person who takes the investment decisions. It will be challenging but also fun to manage the Carnegie High Yield Select fund, which rose by more than 13% in 2021. We hope to be at the top again next year,” says Daniel.

The newly started Carnegie High Yield fund (October 2021) also gets an injection of new expertise in the form of a new portfolio manager, Gustav Ekhagen. Like Daniel, Gustav worked as a portfolio analyst within Carnegie Fonder’s fixed income team.

“I have always been interested in corporate analysis, and have worked with corporate bonds since I graduated in 2014. Diving really deep into companies and analysing their business has long been my interest, with a focus on high-yield bonds. I have learnt a great deal in my years at Carnegie Fonder, working as part of a team that has delivered a competitive return for our unitholders. But it will of course be fun to develop further as a portfolio manager, and especially with a fund that challenges both ourselves and the whole industry by genuinely integrating sustainability analysis into our traditional financial analysis. 100% of our holdings are linked to the UN’s 17 Global Goals, which means we have very high demands when it comes to sustainability, but we never compromise on credit quality or returns,” says Gustav.

Niklas Edman, manager

Niklas Edman remains the lead manager of Carnegie High Yield Select and Carnegie High Yield, but now has a larger management team that can focus on each fund.

“It feels quite natural for Daniel and Gustav to now join the management team, and it is probably a good thing to make room for a new generation that can contribute to continued first-class investment decisions. I have full confidence in them, and we will work as a team to jointly assess all our transactions. Nothing will fall between the cracks, and we can now become even more focused on the management,” says Niklas.
